Rice water for your hair, rice water for skin but what about your garden?
Is Rice water even good for plants anyway? Today I’ll share my experiences using rice water in my garden for the past 3 years.
I first heard about rice water about 5 or 6 years ago, and all the crazy benefits for hair, like stronger, longer hair but at the same time I started to hear how rice water had this powerful ingredient called Inositol as well as vitamins B, C, potassium, maganese and how they do wonders for the plants.
So I decided to test it out.
I soaked 1 cup of uncooked rice in 3 cups of tap water(my initial rice water ratio ) and let it sit on the counter for 3 days and it STUNK!
I diluted it and then used it on a pepper plant and the next day, it produce leaves like crazy.
Over the next couple of months I experimented with the rice water more. I had a strawberry plant that was struggling and I added concentrated rice water on it and BOOM, the next day it produced new baby leaves as if nothing happened.
I mostly use my rice water on leafy greens such as lettuces, pak choy, kale etc.. because it seems that it’s full of nitrogen.
The current rice water ratio that I use now is 1 pound of rice to a 5 gallon bucket filled to the brim with water that is either de-chlorinated, rain water, well water or river water so that all the beneficial bacteria isn’t destroyed. I then boost the rice water by adding either yogurt, boiled potatoes or spoilt milk and then let it sit for 2 weeks.
After 2 weeks you have the ultimate fertilizer to have fast growing plants that love their nitrogen.
Plants like corn, okra, leafy greens, beans, onions hell even zucchini.(And yes it stinks lol)
That’s all for now. Leave any questions below.
